Tycoon's $46m plan to bring little India to Peppy Grove

(as reported in The West Australian newspaper June 16, 2007 http:www.thewest.com.au)

Little India is coming to Peppermint Grove. At least that could soon be the case in the heart of Perth's western suburbs as the Oswals, the wealthy Indian family behind the $700million gas-processing plant in the State's North-West, finalise plans for what will be one of the most expensive mansions built in Australia.

The Oswals have already spent almost $23 million for their land alone.....

And providing The West Australian with an exclusive insight into their plans, Pankaj and his wife Radhika revealed they would spend at least another $23 million building a world class mansion on the 6500sqm property.  They hope to begin construction early next year.

"It will be a small palace away from home" Mr Oswal said of his mansion, "A little India," Mrs Oswal added.

The Oswals said they would not release plans for their mansion until they were submitted to the Peppermint Grove council but they were trying to emulate the look of the luxurious Oberoi Rajvilas resort in Jaipur, India.

...they wanted to build their mansion in keeping with the principles of vastu, which Mrs Oswal described as the Indian equivalent of feng shui.

Ms Oswal said the Peppermint Grove block would allow the family to adhere to vastu principles, including keeping water (in this case the Swan River) to the north or the east of the house.
